Philippe R.I.P.

On the 8th of November, my friend Philippe took his own life. He left letters for his close family to explain that he loved them all. But my understanding is that he could not face the prospect of having to live in a world that was so unjust, and where the lives of ordinary citizens mean nothing compared to the interests of the markets and the multinationals.

Philippe, we are going to miss you terribly. A few weeks before you left us, I tried to get you  to join me in my campaign to transform society by fighting to reform the tax system. I will always regret the fact that I failed to convince you that there may well be a way to end the current nightmare that we are all having to face.

I will keep fighting for justice and the right to live in a decent society. And I hope that someday we will be able to say that you were wrong to believe that there is no way forward.

I dedicate my campaign to you, and the countless millions who share your despair.
